24-hour Emergency & Level IV Trauma Center

With more than 11,000 visits per year, CHI St. Joseph’s Health Emergency Department and Level IV Trauma Center offers state-of-the-art technology to assist our expert staff of Emergency Medicine Physicians, Registered Nurses and multi-disciplinary team in evaluating, diagnosing, and treating illnesses or injuries within the scope of Level IV trauma care.

Emergency care includes:

• Emergency care 24/7/365
• Emergency Medicine physicians employed by CHI St. Joseph’s Health and certified in Advance Trauma Life Support (ATLS)
• Acute Stroke Ready Hospital
• 2 trauma bays
• 13 patient care areas
• Trained nurses certified in:
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)

Level IV Trauma Center

CHI St. Joseph’s Health Emergency Department participates in Minnesota’s statewide trauma system. We have met the standards and commitments, equipment resources, and staff training to receive the Level IV Trauma Center designation.
Trauma patients are treated following approved protocols consistent from hospital to hospital throughout the state.

Being part of a statewide trauma system ensures that severely injured people are promptly transported and treated at trauma hospitals appropriate to the severity of their injuries. The goal is to match the needs of the patient with the resources of the facility as quickly as possible. Based on specific criteria and system support, patients can be treated at CHI St. Joseph’s Health and, when necessary, patients who require greater resources are stabilized and transferred elsewhere.
